Esker Lodge, celebrated nursing home life and participated in Nursing Homes Week 2014 with "A Taste of Esker" from 16th -20th June 2014
Nursing Homes Week is a national celebration that took place in NHI Member
Homes in communities across Ireland. Esker Lodge organised a Taste of Esker to bring residents, their relatives and friends, staff and their families and the wider communities together.
A Taste of Esker featured -
A
BBQ - we had a wonderful day with fantastic weather and a huge turnout. Malachy, our head chef, reckons we went through over 150 burgers on the day! A big thank you to all the residents, their families and our wonderful staff for making it a really special day.
A
Picnic in the Park - some of our residents went out for a picnic and actually had to sit in the shade because it was so hot. Luckily Naomi, our activity co-ordinator, had an awning on hand to keep the sun's strong rays at bay.
Baking
Sessions/Demos - Back by popular demand was our pizza making demo. Everyone enjoyed the finished article, as they watched an old classic movie.
Smoothie
Making - to counter act the pizzas, we had to do something healthy! Our residents loved the smoothies, using natural yoghurt, ice cream
Trips
to Restaurants - some of our residents went out for tea to Smith's, an American-style diner, during the week and really enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant.
The
celebrations brought together residents, their family and friends, staff and their
family members and other regular visitors active in the Esker Lodge community
Vicky
McDwyer, Managing Director of Esker Lodge said: “We see every day in our
home friendship, warmth, camaraderie, humour, trust and love. It is important
to recognise and celebrate the positivity of nursing home care. Nursing Homes
Week provides such an opportunity.”
