positive aging week 27th September to 4th October 2013

A big thank you to Heather from the Cavan Branch of Birdwatch Ireland for coming in to talk to our residents about our feathered friends and wildlife in general as part of our Positive Aging Week celebrations.
The residents also enjoyed bowling thanks to National Active Retirement and Positive Aging 10 pin bowling week, organised in Astrobowl, Cavan. Everyone had a "ball", if you'll forgive the pun.
Our in-house poetry readings got underway yesterday and were a great success with residents and staff doing wondering contributions.
Thanks to everyone involved for a lovely few days...

An afternoon of music, celebrating Social Inclusion Week

As part of the Social Inclusion Week programme in Cavan (7-20th October 2013), Esker Lodge will host a social afternoon for residents with music by Grainne McPhillips and friends. The theme of this year's Social Inclusion Week is focusing on positive mental health. It is in this context that we encourage family and friends coming together to enjoy some "food for the soul".

National Ploughing Championships hot topic for Mens' Club

Esker Lodge is very excited to announce that we’ve started a Farming Men’s club every second Wednesday. All male residents are welcome. Anyone interested should talk to Rosie or Samantha. Last week in honour of the National Ploughing Championships we got the men together for discussions on robotic milking machines - "would ye or wouldn't ye?". Our resident dairy farming expert lead a reminiscence of olden days and forgotten ways of working. If anyone has any ideas of what the men could do in this club please let us know, your suggestions are welcome to help us get the club up and going. Keep an eye on the ‘Residents Communication Board’ in Killykeen for more information to come!
